The intention of this Wiki is to provide a best practice guide to community enterprise, capacity building, alternative economics and grass roots community projects.
This section of the Wiki is an overview of the main CommunityNet website.
A good place to start is 'What is a wiki?' In it’s simplest form it’s a piece of software that allows users to add their own content to a website. There are many, many wikis around; the most famous is Wikipedia.
Here are the the basics - navigating your way around the wiki and finding what you’re interested in.
Here is a glossary of terms that you’re likely to encounter on this site and similar sites aimed at voluntary groups, community groups and the ‘third sector’. Please feel free to contribute!
If you want to contribute, take a look at the article here on Writing an Article.
If you’ve found a good way of doing something, have pitfalls to warn about or generally want to share some useful advice or write a ‘How to do it?’ article, please do.
In addition, if you’ve had a successful project (or even a non-so-successful one), and don’t mind sharing the experience with the wider community, please feel free to start a topic off about your project!
This Wiki uses the DokuWiki software. Wiki pages are written using a special syntax - it’s not difficult but can take a little while to get used to. There’s an article here about how to write pages in this Wiki. If you want to try things out, use the playground.
Why this Wiki? Well, I wanted to get something up and running quickly that I could modify colours schemes, etc. on, and also make it as easy as posisble to use. This particular package met the bill. However, because most Wikis all behave in a similar manner, it will be possible to change the software used without losing any content in future.
